Refurbished Notebook Computers-Info on Batteries

Basically, there are three different types of batteries that may be used for your refurbished notebook computers. These are named for the chemicals they contain. Nickel cadmium batteries are almost extinct now. The main reason for that is that they have quite low capacities of between 2,000 and 3,000 mAH and they also contain elements that don’t disintegrate in the environment, which makes them a risk to the ecology.

Also, they have a major problem known as the memory effect. If you attempt to recharge these batteries before they become totally devoid of charge, their longevity is harmed.

Nickel Metal Hybrid (NiMH) Batteries

These are better than the NiCd ones because they can work twice as efficiently at between 4,000 and 6,000 mAH and they aren’t saddled with the problem of memory effect. However, with the presence of new technologies in the world today, even these batteries are slowly being sidelined.

Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) Batteries

They have good capacities too—slightly better than NiMH batteries—and they don’t have any memory effect. They are the most environmentally-friendly batteries as well. But there’s one more benefit that puts these batteries leagues ahead of the other two types—they are the lightest batteries, weighing only about 50% what the other batteries weigh.

Now, just as you can get refurbished notebook computers, you can get a refurbished battery as well. In fact, if the refurbished laptop you are planning on buying contains a battery that you aren’t much fond of, you could go for a better battery from the refurbished stock. That way, you won’t be paying much and still getting a very good battery.

Most battery manufacturers keep stocks of refurbished batteries. These batteries originally had some snags and were returned, but since then they have been retested and repaired. They are now almost nearly new, but because of the refurbished tag, they are sold at a much better price.

There’s another aspect here that you can think of. If you have a battery in your laptop already and you are quite happy with it, you can still think of refurbished notebook computers batteries as an add-on. We all know how laptops use their charge quickly and there might be times when you direly need to use your notebook but cannot because of it having no charge. On such occasions, a supplementary battery could be a great help. These batteries being low in cost, you could seriously consider this point.
